Epoxy floor coating guide

Use the selected coating system’s data sheet and keep primer separate.

Measure and prepare

Measure actual floor dimensions and enter coating passes. Rough or porous floors can consume more than smooth floors. The initial 0.3 kg/m² per coat is illustrative.

Exclude drains, fixed machinery bases and areas not coated. For an irregular floor, measure simple rectangles and combine them before entering equivalent dimensions. Set coat count from the actual coating system, not a product photo. Read consumption per coat and complete mixed kit mass from the same product’s technical sheet.

How the estimate works

Multiply area by coats, mixed-product consumption per coat and allowance. Divide total kilograms by the mass of a complete A+B kit and round up.

The worked example starts with 20 m² × two coats × 0.3 kg/m² = 12 kg of mixed coating. Ten percent allowance makes 13.2 kg; divided by 5 kg per complete kit it is 2.64 kits, rounded to three. This is combined A+B mass, not litres. If a data sheet states litres per m², use that product’s mixed density before entering kilograms.

Check the order

Check each layer’s consumption, pot life, concrete age, moisture and primer requirement in the exact system data sheet. Do not split A or B without weighing the specified ratio.

Check compatible primer and topcoat, target film thickness, recoat interval and pot life. Repair cracks and investigate moisture or oil contamination before coating. A whole-kit count alone is not a mixing schedule: the team must be able to apply each kit within its stated working time and at suitable substrate conditions.

Limits of the estimate

The estimate covers entered coating passes only. Primer, broadcast aggregate, levelling, labour and substrate tests are separate.

Actual consumption changes with porosity, roughness, thickness, application method and material left in containers. The editable 10% allowance is illustrative and cannot replace a trial area where the manufacturer advises one. Primer, non-slip aggregate, floor repair products and moisture testing must be estimated separately.

Common questions

Can I enter litres?

No. Enter kilograms of mixed material per square metre per coat.

Is primer included?

No. Calculate primer separately from its own rate and kit size.

Why whole kits?

Two-part products are bought as complete A+B kits.
