SPC Flooring Calculator

Measure the floor, enter the actual square metres per box, then see whole boxes, spare coverage and any known costs.

Measure the floor

For a stair opening or fixed area you will leave uncovered. Deduct only space you really will not floor.

L-shaped room or several rooms? Measure in sections and bring the total back here.

Set the box coverage

10% and 2.2 m²/box are editable examples, not guarantees. Check the exact SKU label; diagonal layouts and complex rooms can require more.

Underlay (if applicable)

Some click-lock SPC products have attached backing. Check your selected product’s guide before adding a separate underlay; an unsuitable extra layer can damage the locking system.

Add prices for a budget (optional)

Leave unknown prices blank; enter 0 for a known zero cost. Only known prices enter the subtotal.

Plan boxed SPC click flooring

Estimate whole boxes of rigid SPC flooring, then check the installation guide for the precise product. Attached backing, substrate condition and expansion details can change the materials you need.

Measure the floor and layout

Measure internal width × length in metres, then subtract only areas that will genuinely remain unfloored, such as a stair opening. Enter known net area instead if the room is irregular. Do not deduct space under movable furniture or a floating cabinet if boards will continue beneath it.

Sketch plank direction, doorway transitions and cut positions. Angled layouts and rooms with many corners can generate more waste. Set one allowance for cuts and any spare boards you want; the calculator does not add another reserve after that.

Calculate boxes and approved underlay

The engine multiplies net area by (1 + cutting allowance/100), divides by the exact SKU’s m² per box and rounds up. A 4 × 5 m room is 20 m²; with 10% allowance it needs 22 m². At 2.2 m² per box, that is exactly ten boxes. The tool’s “spare coverage” is area above the allowed target, not a promised number of uncut planks.

Many rigid click products include attached backing. Select that option when the specific SKU has it; do not automatically add a second cushioned layer. Only choose separate underlay when its instructions permit it. In that case, underlay rolls are calculated separately from net area, their own allowance and m² per roll.

Check the substrate and locking system

Check flatness, dryness, stability and cleanliness against the chosen product’s instructions. A rigid core does not make an uneven or soft substrate harmless; movement below the boards can stress click joints. Ask whether a moisture barrier or other preparation is required over concrete.

Check expansion clearances, skirting, door transitions and any wet-area limits for the actual product. A water-resistant plank surface does not prove the complete installation or underlying slab is waterproof. Do not glue a floating click floor unless its own guide specifically allows that method.

Costs beyond the boxes

A per-box floor price multiplies whole boxes; a per-m² price multiplies purchased coverage. Labour uses net room area. The calculator’s subtotal includes only prices entered, so an omitted trim or substrate repair is not a zero-cost item.

Confirm exact model, thickness, m² per box, colour and batch. Ask for separate prices for trims, skirting, levelling, moisture preparation and delivery. If a supplier quotes installation, compare those inclusions against your calculator printout.

Common questions

Do I need underlay if backing is attached?

Do not add it automatically; check the exact SKU guide because an unsuitable extra layer can stress click joints.

Do ten boxes in the example include spares?

The 22 m² target already includes 10% allowance, and ten boxes cover exactly 22 m².

Is every SPC suitable for a bathroom?

Do not assume so; verify wet-area limits and the full installation details for that product.
