Tiles per m² = 10,000 ÷ (tile width in cm × tile length in cm)

Don't subtract anything for grout lines. They're too thin to change the count meaningfully.

How much extra to buy

The calculator defaults to 10% extra for cuts and breakage. Increase it for diagonal layouts, rooms with many corners, large-format tiles, or patterns that need matching.

Keep a few spare tiles after the job. A design you can buy today may be discontinued by the time you need a replacement.

Thai tile boxes

Tiles in Thailand are sold by the box. The box label shows the number of pieces and the area it covers in m². Use the figures from the box of the exact product you're buying, because the same tile size can come in different box quantities.

Example: 20 m² room, 60 × 60 cm tiles, 4 per box

Room 4 × 5 m = 20 m²

Add 10%: 22 m²

22 ÷ 0.36 = 61.1 → at least 62 tiles

62 ÷ 4 = 15.5 → 16 boxes (64 tiles, covering 23.04 m²)

Budget: price per box × 16 boxes, plus labour per m² × 20 m² (the net area, not the area including the extra), plus adhesive, grout and trims.

Before you buy

Same batch: buy all boxes from the same production batch and shade code, printed on the box. Tiles from different batches can differ visibly in colour.

Check the boxes: open a box at the shop and check for chips.

Wet areas: for bathrooms and outdoor areas, choose tiles rated for slip resistance.

Should I subtract built-in cabinets? Only if nothing will be tiled under them. Many installers tile the whole floor first.
