Outdoor Mat by PDM

PDM's AAMU and STRIDE mats pair woven, plastic-based materials with bold patterns for indoor and outdoor spaces. Their details differ, so it helps to choose by place, size and care as well as colour.

AAMU: colour and easy cleaning

PDM describes AAMU as a lightweight mat woven from recycled plastic pellets. The maker says it can be wiped or washed, resists UV exposure and can be used outdoors. The listed colourways are Summer Sunset, Duomo Sky and Nordic Midnight, inspired by the Northern Lights.

AAMU is an option when a terrace, balcony or room needs a colourful surface that is easy to clean. Check the size offered for the chosen colour against the space before ordering.

STRIDE: foldable and reversible

STRIDE is Sini Aalto's geometric triangle pattern for PDM's NIK NIK mat. The maker lists 100% recycled polypropylene with a UV inhibitor, and describes the mat as foldable, reversible and suitable for indoor use or outdoor trips. It can be cleaned with water.

The two sides offer a simple way to change the visible colour without replacing the mat. Its folding format matters most if the mat will be carried to a picnic or stored between uses.

Choose a size from the space you can use

STRIDE comes in S (90 × 170 cm), M (120 × 180 cm) and XL (180 × 240 cm). The diagram above compares their listed footprints to scale. Measure the floor area that can actually hold the mat, allowing for furniture legs, opening doors and the route people use to pass through.

As a simple example, a 120 × 180 cm M mat centred in a 150 × 210 cm clear rectangle leaves 15 cm around each edge. Allow additional clear space wherever people need to walk. If furniture will sit on it, mark the proposed outline on the floor before deciding between M and XL.

An illustrative 120 by 180 cm mat centred in a 150 by 210 cm area leaves 15 cm at each edge.
An M mat centred in a 150 × 210 cm area leaves 15 cm at each edge; plan walking space separately.

Match the format to how you use it

For a mat that stays in one room or on one terrace, start with the fitted dimensions and the colour you want to see every day. For a mat that moves between home and outdoor trips, STRIDE's folding format and smaller S option are more relevant. Confirm the selected AAMU variation's dimensions before buying.

STRIDE's triangle pattern can read differently when the mat is turned or flipped. Compare both sides and place the long edge in the direction that suits the furniture layout; reversible colour is useful only if both sides work with the setting.

Cleaning and storage

PDM says AAMU can be wiped or washed and STRIDE can be cleaned with water. For a dining area or terrace, plan where the mat can be rinsed and dried. Clear loose dirt first, follow the maker's water-cleaning guidance for the selected mat, and let it dry before folding it away.

STRIDE's woven polypropylene offers a different feel and care routine from an absorbent fabric rug. If softness underfoot matters most, compare the actual materials in person; if easy water cleaning matters more, consider how the mat will be used and stored.
